GE dishwasher pdw7800 Profile Built-In Dishwasher Review

August 12th, 2008 · 2 Comments

GE Dishwashers are extremely popular in the USA and Canada. However its extremely important that you analyse the pros and cons before you buy this GE dishwasher pdw7800 Profile built-in dishwasher.

Many people agree that GE Pdw 7800 dishwasher is an Expensive machine which does a better than average cleaning job. However, it leaves crud/scum/food particles along the inside front edge of the bottom of the unit where the door closes. It would get approx 3/10 for its poor design.

Some of the Pros of GE dishwasher pdw7800

1) Tall tub allows for big cookware and the movable tines make it easy to custom fit with each wash cycle.

2) Sleek in appearance with easy control features

3) The three wash sprayers certainly add to a quick and superb clean. A regular cycle takes 6 gallons of water. You don’t have to scrape much off of the dishes before loading.

4) Dishes are very clean and glasses sparkle, Even works great on pans.

Cons of GE dishwasher pdw7800:

1) The racks are poorly designed and don’t hold dishes

2) The worst problem is that the built-in garbage disposal doesn’t work very well, since there are often deposits of food left on glasses and bowls in the top rack.

3) it makes a load groaning noise

Our Verdict is Do not BUY GE dishwasher pdw7800, you might get a better deal in the market.

GE Profile PDW7900 dishwasher stopped working just in a couple months. We had warranty repairs now and than, and it would stop working fairly quickly. GE extended warranty by 6 months in response to complain, and that didn;t get us anywhere either.

The problem is – the holes in 3 arms’ which water pours down on dishes and also pushes the arms into rotation get clogged with hard deposits, and after that there’s really no washing.

It could be said, that water in NJ is just too hard, but old dishwasher we had worked for 10 years, and we never had this problem. I’d say – this is fundamental design flaw and GE is the only one to blame… I’m contemplating suing them for breaking lemon law…

    Au Contraire!
My wife and I have had a GE Profile PDW 7800 for 2 years and we are very impressed with it.
It was supposed to be expensive, but we went to a local discounter when they were changing models and we got a great deal. It was about $580.

We have used it for parties, large dinners and Christmas dinners as well as everyday dishes and have never had to use any cycle other than “normal wash” to get the dishes clean.

We did notice that we had some problems when we used Electrasol (now Finish) instead of Cascade gel tabs. We bought the Electrasol on sale figuring that they were all about the same, an incorrect assumption.

We always use Jet-Dry and we are very happy with the results.

Our in-laws have a very expensive Bosch dishwasher (about $1500 Integra) that I must admit, is a little quieter than our Profile PDW7800, but for $1000 more it should be. It doesn’t wash dishes any better.

I did notice that the GE website shows the new model PDWF800RBB lists at about $1200, but the Nextag price tracker shows they have been as low as $960 around christmas. I would suggest looking for the PDW7800PBB (last year’s model) for a better price. (showing $765 at Best Buy) or the PDW7800NBB that shows to have been available for as little as $650 at some retailers.
Just for laughs, GE also has the GSD6900 series that has almost all the features of the PDW7800 (now PDWF800) except the stainless steel interior (earlier models including the PDW7800 have the PermaTuf interior that is made of plastic about 1/4″ thick and lasts forever with no scratching or burnishing with steel wool required) for around $560. If you don’t need the electronic touch button controls, you can find the same cleaning system and insulation blanket sound-proofing in the $380-440 range with other GE models.
    Check it out!!
